A site manager with over 50 years in construction has been recognised for his hard work and dedication, by being awarded an NHBC Pride in the Job award.
Dick Salisbury, 67, is senior site manager for The Powdermills – a Bellway Homes project in Tonbridge, Kent, which involves the construction of 73 homes, ranging in price from £400k to £1 million.
Pride in the Job is the house-building industry’s most prestigious awards programme which has been running for 35 years. It is dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house-building.
All site managers running a site with a home or homes that are registered for NHBC Buildmark cover, are automatically entered into the competition and the assessment is based on key stage inspections throughout the housebuilding process which gauge the quality of the workmanship achieved.
Renowned for its strict criteria, anyone selected for a Pride in the Job award needs to show that they have gone above and beyond the work required. And, with 52 years on-site experience, Dick was a perfect candidate.
He said: “My philosophy has always been that I go to work and do my best and I like to think we produce a good job. If there is recognition above and beyond, then that is a bonus. I’m always proud of everything I do work wise.”
Dick began work straight out of school as a carpenter and joiner by trade, then worked his way up the management chain to senior level.
He was recruited for his current role by the team at Rytons, in conjunction with the production team at Bellway Homes, which is headed up by Contracts Manager Nick Brasier. The placement is testament to the team’s hard work and excellent ability to discover and recruit the best candidates for a wide range of construction roles.
Rytons Managing Director, Patrick Murtagh, said: “It’s always a pleasure to see the candidates that we put forward achieve outstanding results in their work. By being given this award, Dick has proved himself to be among the best in construction and we would like to offer him our biggest congratulations!”
Having scooped the Quality Award for the South East, he will now be put into the running for the Seal of Excellence awards which will be announced later this year.
